More than 350 people attended the JCGS 2026 Genealogy Day Open House and Resource Fair, held Saturday, March 28, at the Johnson County Central Resource Library in Overland Park. Speakers, exhibitors, workshops, and demonstrations were held throughout the building. Keynote sessions focused on Getting Started in Genealogy, Ancestry, Family Search, and Military Research 101.
New additions this year were the America 250 booth, a Revolutionary War Ancestor look-up room, and a session on Oral History presented by the Midwest Genealogy Center. Popular JCGS services were showcased, including a Memory Lab demonstration and Special Interest Groups: Writing your Family Story, DNA, Digital Scrapbooking, Family Tree Maker, Legacy, and RootsMagic. The Genealogy area was busy with volunteers providing 20-minute consultations to patrons on their family history. There were also exhibits of family history memorabilia, which included a new display from the local chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers, African American regiments in the US Army.
Thank you to all the JCGS volunteers and the Johnson County Library Staff for their contributions to another successful event.
