Mission Statement

The Johnson County Genealogical Society and Library is dedicated to fostering genealogical activities in Johnson County, in Kansas, the United States -- and the world.  We provide technical and personal assistance and encouragement to our members in their genealogical research, education and related endeavors no matter where their journey takes them. Most of us reside in Johnson County and we help out in research here, but our research can take us all over the world.

The Society also maintains a collection of genealogical publications at the Johnson County Central Resource Library. JCGS volunteers staff the genealogy desk at the library located at 87th and Farley Streets in Overland Park, Kansas.

The Johnson County, Kansas Genealogist

The Society publishes a quarterly magazine, The Johnson County, Kansas Genealogist, in March, June, September and December of each year. The Genealogist is emailed to each individual or family membership.  If members wish to receive a printed paper copy their dues are $20.00 more per year.  Members should keep the Society advised of changes of address in order to avoid any delay in receipt. All members have access to any back issues on the members only secure download page. We are in the process of digitizing the early issues.

Submission of original articles suitable for publication is welcome. The Quarterly Editor reserves the decision to publish material and the right to edit as appropriate. Reprinted articles must be accompanied by the publisher's permission to use the article. The deadline for each issue is the regular meeting for the month prior to the month of publication.
